KUALA LUMPUR: DAP said tonight it was unaware that P Waytha Moorthy’s Malaysian Advancement Party had applied to join Pakatan Harapan.
DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said the application was “not heard of”.
“We have not seen him since the fall of the PH government,” Loke said. “The last he was seen was at the Cabinet meeting before the Sheraton Move,” he told reporters, referring to the defections that led to the collapse of the Dr Mahathir Mohamad-led administration in 2020.
Waytha, who is MAP president, was a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of national unity. He said earlier today that attempts to forge cooperation with the coalition had failed.
He claimed that PKR president and PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim did not want an Indian-based party in PH.
MAP had no choice but to seek partnership with “Malay and Chinese majority political parties” since there was no parliamentary seat whose demographic was mostly made up of the Indian community. - FMT
