PETALING JAYA: Sarawak DAP will field newcomer Larry Jabul in the Serian parliamentary constituency while state chairman Chong Chieng Jen and two others will seek re-election.Chong will contest the Stampin seat, seeking a sixth term as MP, while Dr Kelvin Yii will seek a second term in Bandar Kuching and vice-chairman Mordi Bimol will contest Mas Gading for a third term.
In 2018, Chong had been elected in Stampin by a majority of 14,000 votes over Dr Sim Kui Hian of Barisan Nasional. Chong had previously contested and won four terms in Bandar Kuching.
Yii, who is DAP Youth leader was elected in Bandar Kuching in 2018, defeating Sarawak United Peoples’ Party candidate Kho Teck Wan by a majority of 35,973 votes, while Mordi defeated Progressive Democratic Party candidate Nogeh Gumbek with a majority of 3,024 votes.
Yesterday, DAP also announced that Oscar Ling and Alice Lau will be retained to contest the Sibu and Lanang parliamentary seats, with newcomer Tony Chiew to contest in Bintulu.
Last Friday, Chong had announced that DAP will field eight candidates in Sarawak. Seven have been named so far. - FMT
