The Election Commission (EC) has been notified of the dissolution of Parliament made by outgoing prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob earlier today.
Its secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak said the EC would hold a special meeting to discuss and determine the dates for the 15th general election (GE15), which will be announced in the near future.
The meeting will also discuss the Bugaya state by-election in Sabah, he added.
Meanwhile, the EC has now opened postal voting registration for GE15.
Ikmalrudin said the closing date for registration will be announced after the EC meets to determine election dates.
For the record, the EC must fix an election date to be held within 60 days of the dissolution of parliament.
Ikmalrudin said that postal ballot applications for election officers, EC members, the police, military and media must be applied manually under Form 1A on the EC website, and be sent to the managing officer of their respective electoral division.
Meanwhile, Malaysian citizens abroad as well as agencies or organisations who intend to apply as postal voters must apply through the EC’s portal. - Mkini
