GE15 will be Muhyiddin's last

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said the upcoming 15th general election (GE15) will be his last time contesting for a seat.

“Time is up. This is my last term to serve. I leave it up to the voters whether they want me or not.

“If they do, I will continue serving, but if not, I will go back to my kampung,” the incumbent Pagoh MP quipped at a press conference at Masjid Pekan Panchor in Pagoh today.

Among the reasons he cited were his age as well as his almost 50 years of service to the country.

The 75-year-old said he is also confident enough about the future leaders of Bersatu to leave the party in their hands.

“I am not supposed to hold up the sky until I am so old, don’t misunderstand.

“I am confident about the party’s future because we have many leaders who are ready to continue (the party’s fight).

“Now, there are many with the qualifications and experience,” Muhyiddin said.

PN polls manifesto almost done

On a related matter, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson said the coalition is expected to complete their seat negotiations by early next week.

They are also almost done preparing their election manifesto, he said.

Among the issues they want to focus on in the manifesto, he said, is how to help with the financial burdens of the rakyat in this landscape of rising inflation and cost of living.

They also want to focus on assisting SMEs in getting back on their feet post-pandemic by introducing policies such as bank moratoriums, which Muhyiddin reminded them that he did when he was prime minister. - Mkini
