DAP national chairperson Lim Guan Eng has taken a swipe at caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob for claiming he was just joking about sacking all the 12 Perikatan Nasional cabinet ministers who sent a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to object to the dissolution of Parliament.
"This is making a mockery of the Federal Constitution and the country’s electoral process by regarding the sacking of 12 PN ministers and dissolving the Parliament as a joke.
"Sacking ministers and dissolving the Parliament are grave and serious acts that involve the king and are provided for in the Federal Constitution.
"Both actions should be people-centric in improving their livelihood and better interests of the nation, not trifled with irresponsibly as a joke," said Lim (above) in a statement today.
The incumbent Bagan MP said Ismail Sabri significantly demeaned himself and went on to question the 'strange logic' of the caretaker prime minister who said that the fact that the 12 PN ministers are still in the cabinet means he was merely kidding.
"Ismail Sabri had shown himself to be confused and even dishonest by first blaming the 12 ministers on Oct 11 for his decision to dissolve Parliament despite recommendations by government agencies that it should be held until after the monsoon season was over.
"Then on Oct 13, he made a U-turn by saying he did not blame the 12 PN ministers for sending the letter to the king because they were only following orders from their party leaders.
"On Oct 17, Ismail Sabri made another U-turn by saying he should have sacked the 12 PN ministers for writing the letter to the king opposing his suggestion to dissolve Parliament.
"Then on Oct 19, Ismail Sabri yet again made a U-turn by saying he was only joking about sacking the 12 PN ministers," said Lim.
The former finance minister quoted the late 1970s Rod Stewart hit song ‘I Was Only Joking’ in questioning whether or not Ismail Sabri was fit to be the prime minister. - Mkini
