TUARAN: Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor has confirmed that he will not be contesting in the upcoming general election (GE15), despite calls for him to contest the Tuaran parliamentary seat.
“I’m not interested,” he briefly told reporters after launching the Tuaran Bersatu division’s annual meeting.
Hajiji, who chairs the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition and Bersatu’s Sabah chapter, said GRS was likely to field someone for the Tuaran seat.
Nevertheless, he said, this would be discussed in tonight’s GRS top leadership meeting, before bringing the matter up to Barisan Nasional.
He also said GRS would not clash with parties that had stated their support for the coalition but had yet to be a component party.
Among the coalition’s allies are Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM), Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah, the Liberal Democratic Party and Parti Cinta Sabah.
GRS’ component parties are Bersatu, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), Parti Bersatu Sabah, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and United Sabah National Organisation.
GRS and BN are partners in the current Sabah state government. - FMT
