Pakatan Harapan will make Perak its frontline state in the 15th general election (GE15).
According to state DAP chairperson Nga Kor Ming, this was to enable the coalition to reach its goal of achieving “Harapan corridor” states in Peninsular Malaysia.
"The Harapan presidential council has already set Perak as the frontline state for the upcoming election.
"We have won Penang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan, and are short of one - Perak.
"If we win Perak in GE15, all the states from the north to south will become a ‘Harapan corridor’. And from there on, we can expand to Johor and Pahang," Nga (above) said at a Deepavali dinner event organised by the state DAP in Ipoh, last night.
Nga, who is also incumbent Teluk Intan MP, earlier announced that Harapan will organise the coalition's national convention on Oct 20 in Ipoh.
Four important announcements will be made at the event, namely Harapan's prime minister candidate, the number of seats that will be contested in GE15, as well as Harapan's mascot and theme song, he added.
For the record, in the 2008 general election, the opposition then known as Pakatan Rakyat, captured Perak, before being ousted by BN a year later through several defections.
BN retained the state in the 2013 general election with a slim majority of three seats.
In the 2018 polls, Harapan formed the state government with Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu as menteri besar.
However, Bersatu left Harapan in 2020 and joined hands with BN. Faizal was then ousted in 2021, with Umno's Saarani Mohamad taking over his place. - Mkini
