PSM has agreed in principle to the electoral pact agreement with Pakatan Harapan, said the party’s deputy chairperson S Arutchelvan.
He said PSM’s central committee had studied the electoral pact draft document on Friday, which would see them enter seat negotiations with the coalition.
“PSM, in principle, agrees with the electoral pact agreement with Harapan, a document containing the basic principles of mutual understanding.
“There are some things that PSM needs a little clarification on and we are ready to discuss with the Harapan committee to fine-tune this document,” Arutchelvan (above) said in a statement today.
In line with this, he said PSM hopes the seat negotiations can be resolved as soon as possible so that campaigning can be done effectively.
Harapan sent the draft agreement to PSM and Muda on Oct 13 for them to review and revert back for negotiations.
However, it was reported that the draft agreement did not stipulate seat allocations.
Arutchelvan had previously said they had requested for the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat to be contested by PSM chairperson Dr Michael Jeyakumar.
“The Sungai Siput constituency is very important to us. (It) is where Jeyakumar has been working with the grassroots communities since his student days in 1977.
“It is a PSM stronghold and I believe that MIC president SA Vigneswaran, who intends to contest the seat, views Jeyakumar as a threat,” he said. - Mkini
