ALOR SETAR: Heavy rain that lasted for a few hours on Wednesday (Oct 26) triggered floods at several area in Padang Terap and Kubang Pasu.
Padang Terap Civil Defence Force (APM) Lt (PA) Roshidi Kassim said among the worst affected areas were at Kampung Perik, Kampung Labi and Kampung Bendang Raja.
"A total of 76 victims from 23 families were rescued after Sungai Janing overflowed due to heavy rain and roadswere disconnected due to the increasing flood waters," he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 27).
Lt Roshidi said two temporary relief centre (PPS) were open at SK Perik and SK Tualak.
He said besides the Civil Defence Force (APM), district office, Welfare Department, Fire and Rescue Department, Kuala Nerang state assembly office and TNB also assisted in the rescue and evacuation operation.
In Kubang Pasu, three villages in Mukim Binjai were submerged in floodwaters after several hours of heavy rain early Wednesday night.
The village are Kampung Telok,Kampung Bendang and Kampung Tanjung.
As of 8am on Thursday (Oct 27) a total of 91 victims from 28 families were evacuated to a PPS at SK Binjai. - Star
