DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has declined the challenge to contest in the Bentong parliamentary seat, saying the party has the “right candidate” for the job.
“The question (of contesting in Bentong) does not arise. We have a suitable candidate for that.
“We will of course defend the Bentong parliamentary seat, but I already have a seat to contest in,” Loke, who is incumbent Seremban MP, was quoted telling Utusan Malaysia.
He was responding to the challenge issued by voters in the Telemong district in Bentong, Pahang, for Loke to go up against former MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, who has the party’s backing to contest there.
According to Utusan, the challenge came after Loke reportedly told a Chinese daily last week that DAP will “bury” Liow’s political career, should he contest for the seat.
Loke was also reported as saying that DAP was gathering “bullets” at the Bentong parliamentary seat to “attack” Liow until the latter is unable to stand up.
Elaborating, Loke said that the “bullets” were an analogy for political funds to face GE15.
DAP’s Wong Tack defeated Liow by 2,032 votes in the 14th general election. - Mkini
