"It's just a speculation", deputy speaker says of Parliament dissolution

KUALA LUMPUR: Talks about an impending dissolution of Parliament are mere speculation, deputy Dewan Rakyat speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor told the Lower House today.

Therefore, the Cameron Highlands member of Parliament urged all lawmakers to focus on tasks at hand rather than getting involved in unconfirmed rumour.

"About the dissolution of Parliament, it is still a speculation.

"We still don't know what will be decided. It's just a speculative (statement).

"So, let's not speculate further and proceed with things that we are supposed to do in this House until the time comes," he said.

Ramli was responding to Teresa Kok (PH-Seputeh) and RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) who asked if the Parliament would be dissolved soon and how this would benefit the public since the flood season is expected to arrive soon.

In the past week, after Umno pressured Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to hold the 15th general election (GE15) soon, talk is rife that Parliament might be dissolved before the tabling of the 2023 Budget on Friday.

Ismail Sabri is scheduled to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today but the agenda of the meeting has not been announced.

So far, neither Ismail Sabri not his cabinet members have indicated that Parliament would be dissolved anytime soon. They have also maintained that the 2023 Budget would be tabled as scheduled.

On Monday the Prime Minister told reporters the power to advise the King on the dissolution of Parliament lies with him and not others. - NST
