Plans to introduce additional language subjects at national primary schools

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has plans to expand additional language subjects offered at national primary schools in the country.

Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said this is among efforts that will be undertaken by the government to make national primary schools as the choice among parents.

At the moment, he said, the ministry is offering three additional communication language subjects namely Mandarin, Tamil and Arabic to students enrolled at national primary schools in the country.

"The government will continue to empower Sekolah Kebangsaan through initiatives as outlined in the Malaysia Education Development Blueprint 2013-2025," said Radzi in a written parliamentary reply.

The ministry, he said, has implemented eight measures to strengthen and empower national primary schools.

Apart from providing a complete and quality infrastructures as well as ensuring all Year One pupils master reading, writing and calculate skills, Radzi explained that other measures included holistic student development that included cognitive, affective and psychomotor aspects; creating healthy school culture and strengthening implementation of curriculum and sports activities. - NST
