Kit Siang sets trap for ‘chameleon’ Hadi with ‘pro-communist’ quiz

Lim Kit Siang did not pull his punches when he rained blows on PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, calling him a “chameleon” and peddler of “lies and untruths”.

He also accused the Muslim cleric of tainting Islam.

The veteran politician’s vitriol was in response to Hadi branding the predominantly-Chinese DAP as “pro-communist”.

However, Lim asked when did the PAS leader make this discovery - before or after PAS and DAP ended their political cooperation in Pakatan Rakyat, the predecessor of Pakatan Harapan.

“Hadi, Anwar and I signed a communique on the formation of Pakatan Rakyat forming a coalition between PAS, PKR and DAP in 2008, but Pakatan Rakyat ended following the June 2015 PAS Muktamar when PAS leaders under Hadi cut ties with DAP.

“When did DAP become communist or pro-communist? Was it before 2008 and after 2015, or was DAP communist or pro-communist all along in the Pakatan Rakyat between 2008-2015,” he added in a statement this morning.

Hadi more efficient than special branch

In a sarcastic jab, Lim said Hadi appeared to have more knowledge about this matter than the police special branch, which had been victorious against the communists in Malaysia.

“I was twice detained under the Internal Security Act but neither the DAP leadership nor I was ever accused of being communist or pro-communist.

“Has Hadi information about the DAP that the special branch of Malaysia does not possess?

“Hadi is giving Islam a bad name by coming out with ridiculous statements like: ‘We (PAS) don’t like DAP as it is communist. But when we were friends with DAP, it was okay. When we cooperated with Bersatu and Umno, then DAP became communists again’.

“When DAP co-operated with (former PAS spiritual leader) NIk (Abdul) Aziz (Nik Mat) and (former PAS president) Fadzil Noor, was DAP communist or pro-communist?” he asked.

Hadi’s remarks have courted brickbats from various quarters, including Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim.

Last week, DAP’s incumbent Klang MP Charles Santiago said the PAS leader should be made aware of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah’s wish for politicians to abstain from slander. - Mkini
