Muda lodges report over unruly youths at Syed Saddiq ceramah

A group of unruly youths disrupted a ceramah in Muar as Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was speaking.

PETALING JAYA: Muda has lodged a police report over a group of unruly youths who heckled Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman while he was speaking at a ceramah in Muar last night.

Maharani Muda chief Amir Fiqri lodged the report at the Muar police station, urging cops to identify those who were responsible for the ruckus.

He claimed that the youths tried to provoke the people attending the ceramah as well as Muda supporters by screaming and showing vulgar signs.

Amir also vehemently denied claims that Muda itself was behind the incident.

The ceramah was disrupted by the youths as the Muda president was halfway into his speech.

They gathered outside the tent where Syed Saddiq was speaking and repeatedly shouted “penipu” (liar) at the former youth and sports minister.

In response, Muda supporters had shouted back at the youths, asking them to “balik” (go home). Police were seen blocking the youths from getting any nearer to the tent.

Syed Saddiq said he was frustrated by the youths’ action, which included them revving up the throttle on their motorcycles to drown out his speech.

Meanwhile, Muar Umno Youth lodged a police report against Syed Saddiq and several Muda leaders for allegedly accusing them of being behind the incident.

Muar Umno Youth chief Helmy Abdul Latif said he was also discussing with his lawyers whether to take legal action against Muda over the matter.

“Umno Youth rejects this kind of provocative politics. It is a culture that Umno Youth does not practice,” he said in a statement.

This is not the first time Syed Saddiq has suffered heckling and other unruly behaviour. In October 2020, he had to climb over a back garden fence to escape from dozens of youths who gatecrashed a gathering in Ulu Tiram, Johor. - FMT
