Negeri Sembilan MB may replace Anwar in PD seat

Speculations are rife that Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun will be chosen to defend the Port Dickson seat of Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim.

This is fuelled by the fact that Anwar has not named the constituency he will contest in the 15th general election (GE15).

According to Berita Harian, Aminuddin (above) who is also the Negeri Sembilan Harapan chairperson, refused to confirm or deny the speculation but said: “I don’t know. Is it Amuniddin Harun? Not sure.”

“The Harapan presidential council will make an announcement,” he said at a press conference after chairing a state executive council meeting yesterday.

Previously, Anwar had hinted at giving way to other PKR candidates to contest the seat he was elected to in a 2018 by-election.

The PKR president entered the Port Dickson by-election after he received a pardon for a sodomy conviction.

Prior to that, Anwar was the Permatang Pauh MP.

There were also speculations that Anwar would contest in GombakAmpang, or Tambun.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the Kuala Pilah parliamentary seat is expected to witness a three-cornered fight at the least, with three main blocs likely to be in contention.

They are Harapan through a PKR candidate, BN through Umno, and Perikatan Nasional through Bersatu.

Kuala Pilah’s incumbent MP is former deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Eddin Syazlee Shith from Bersatu.

Candidates list soon

Aminuddin confirmed that PKR was offered to contest in Kuala Pilah.

“The seat that was previously won by Bersatu will be taken by Harapan.

“We have finished (the distribution of seats in Negeri Sembilan), so wait for the presidential council.

“I think (the list of candidates) will be announced in the near future,” the Sikamat assemblyperson said.

Kuala Pilah is traditionally an Umno stronghold that was represented by former domestic trade, co-operatives, and consumerism minister Hasan Malek who lost to Eddin in GE14 by a majority of 200 votes. - Mkini
