PETALING JAYA: Politicians who have yet to be allocated a seat to contest in the coming general election should dial 15555 or HEAL, for the national mental health crisis line, caretaker health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said in jest today.
Khairy said the hotline began operations today.
He said he would use the hotline himself, as he, too, has yet to be allocated a seat.
“Any politician this election season can call HEAL 15555 if they don’t get a seat, including me. I will use it too,” he said in jest when speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the National Centre of Excellence for Mental Health.
Khairy said the hotline was for individuals who faced mental health problems. They could get early help through the hotline, to prevent their problems from worsening.
The hotline, which runs from 8am to 12am every day, is operated by the health ministry’s psychological (counselling) officer, he added.
Khairy said he had announced improvements to the psychosocial support helpline on Oct 10 with the 5-digit hotline known as HEAL 15555 which would start operating on Oct 21.
“The word HEAL means ‘Help with Empathy and Love’,” Khairy said. - FMT
