PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has sounded a warning that politicians who only seek power and worldly wealth would destroy the nation.
Sultan Sharafuddin said a leader who does not uphold the values of integrity, honesty and trust would fall victim to corruption, abuse of power, breach of trust and spreading slander, which could harm the community.
“Leaders who betray, deceive and abuse power to accumulate personal wealth will definitely be hated by the people and cursed by God. If the leader is broken, the country will be broken,” he said in a statement posted on Facebook by the Selangor Royal Office.
Leaders with integrity, he said, would not only change the people’s lives but also drive the country towards achieving its planned objectives of sustainability, stability and respectability.
“Instead of (being) a country known for its controversies, like misuse of power, corruption, breach of trust, betrayal and infighting that have damaged the unity of the nation,” he said.
Sultan Sharafuddin added that integrity, based on Islamic values that focused on the strength of faith, sharia, and morals, was the best solution to the turmoil plaguing all levels of Malaysian society.
“Be aware leaders, do not betray the trust given to you. Leaders should not only highlight politeness but honest sincerity that can be trusted by the people and respected by other countries.
“At the same time, an honest and trustworthy leader is one who is not only honest to others, but also to himself,” Sultan Sharafuddin said. - FMT
