No info on imprisoned Najib's nomination for Pekan: Wan Rosdy

Pahang BN chairperson Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said he has yet to receive complete information regarding Pekan Umno’s proposal to nominate imprisoned former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

“So far I have not received any information and I will refer to the Election Commission and the state (government) legal adviser… should there be any nomination,” he said at a press conference in Kuantan, Pahang today.

He was asked to comment on Pekan Umno chief Zamri Ramly’s statement yesterday which confirmed that Najib’s name was among five candidates presented by the division for the Pekan parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election.

Zamri reportedly said there was no plan to field Najib's children to contest in Pekan if the incumbent MP loses his eligibility to defend the seat.

Najib is serving a 12-year jail term at the Kajang prison in Selangor after the Federal Court on Aug 23 upheld the conviction and prison sentence against him for misappropriating SRC International Sdn Bhd funds amounting to RM42 million.

In addition, he was slapped with a fine of RM210 million.

Earlier, Wan Rosdy, who is now the caretaker Pahang menteri besar, announced the dissolution of the state legislative assembly after receiving consent from the Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah.

When asked about the candidates that will be fielded by BN in the election, Was Rosdy said the matter would be decided at a later date, but did not rule out the possibility that more fresh faces will be featured.

“That’s normal, ever since we held elections, there will be new and old faces.

Umno-PAS split inconsequential

The incumbent Jelai assemblyperson also said PAS’ decision to stick with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the 15th general election will not affect BN’s chances to retain Pahang.

He said this is based on the state government’s excellent administrative record, proven by the increase in revenue collection of more than RM1 billion up to last September.

“We also managed to attract foreign investment exceeding RM50 billion and were able to reduce the (state government’s) debt to the federal government from RM3.3 billion to RM950 million during the 53 months we (BN) governed Pahang,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pahang Umno secretary Abdul Hamid Nazahar said names of proposed candidates from all state party divisions will be submitted to Wan Rosdy as he is the state party chairperson.

“All Umno division leaders deal directly with Wan Rosdy,” he said briefly when contacted on WhatsApp. - Mkini
