Opposition chief Anwar Ibrahim today suggested that the Pekan Umno division in Pahang be provided with a copy of the Federal Constitution.
This comes after the division nominated former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is currently serving time in jail, to be a candidate for the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).
“I think someone should send them (a copy) of the Federal Constitution,” Anwar said in jest.
“They need to understand (why the idea is not viable). And I suggest that one of Umno's lawyers advise them,” he added.
Earlier today, it was reported that the Pekan Umno division submitted five names, including Najib’s, to contest the Pekan parliamentary seat in GE15.
The seat is currently held by Najib, but the former Umno president was sent to prison in August to serve his 12-year jail sentence after being convicted of seven counts of corruption.
Pekan Umno division chief Zamri Ramly reportedly said there was no plan to field Najib's children to contest in Pekan if the incumbent MP loses his eligibility to defend the seat.
"There are no plans to field Najib’s children to contest in Pekan if he loses the eligibility to contest.
"Whoever is chosen to contest there (will) hand the seat back to Najib when he's pardoned later," Zamri was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia. - Mkini
