PETALING JAYA: The floods in Alor Gajah, Melaka, have forced more people to evacuate their homes, with 38 residents relocated to relief centres.

This was an increase compared to the 27 who had been evacuated as of last night.

In a statement, the state disaster management committee said a relief centre at the Gadek community hall was opened at 11pm yesterday to house 11 evacuees from five families.

“A total of 27 people from six families are still being housed at SK Durian Tunggal. They are from Kampung Bukit Tambun, Kampung Bukit Balai, Kampung Belimbing Dalam and Kampung Pulau,” it said.

On Sunday, about 55 people had been evacuated in the district because of the floods. This had decreased to 32 yesterday afternoon before further reducing to 27, when the situation looked to be improving. - FMT
