GEORGE TOWN: Nurul Izzah Anwar will “most likely” defend the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat in Penang in the general election (GE15), says PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
“It is very likely that the party will go in that direction,” Anwar said when asked by reporters last night whether his daughter will defend the seat, where she won in 2018 by more than 15,600 votes.
The seat, considered an Anwar family seat and PKR stronghold, has been won by Anwar, his wife and his daughter over nine terms since 1982.
The Pakatan Harapan chairman was first asked about the possibility of Nurul Izzah taking on Zuraida Kamaruddin in Ampang as rumoured.
The former PKR women’s wing leader won the Ampang parliamentary seat in the last general election (GE14) in 2018. Zuraida defected to Bersatu two years later. She left Bersatu earlier this year to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), where she is now president.
Anwar did not want to respond to the speculation but only said that PKR will go all out to reclaim seats lost to “traitors” or those who defected.
“The traitor’s head is at Gombak, its tail is at Nibong Tebal,” he said in referring to former PKR leaders Azmin Ali and Mansor Othman, who had crossed over to Bersatu. - FMT
