PETALING JAYA: Pahang and Perlis have announced the dissolution of their state assemblies effective today, which will allow state elections to be held simultaneously with the parliamentary elections in GE15.
According to Bernama, the menteris besar of both states announced the dissolution following audiences with their respective rulers.
Pahang menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail was granted an audience with the regent, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Sultan Abdullah, and Perlis menteri besar Azlan Man said he had received the consent of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.
On Oct 10, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament to make way for GE15 after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong gave his consent.
Following the dissolution of Parliament, Ismail, who heads a caretaker government, suggested that the state assemblies, except in Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Johor, be dissolved to allow state and parliamentary elections to be held concurrently.
Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Johor held their state elections recently.
On the same day, Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the BN-led states of Pahang, Perlis and Perak would dissolve their legislative assemblies simultaneously with the dissolution of Parliament.
BN also controls Johor and Melaka.
The Pakatan Harapan-controlled states of Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan have not dissolved their state assemblies yet, while PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has been reported as saying state elections in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah will not be held this year. - FMT
