PKR Batu vice-chief lodges report against cop over injuries during arrest

PKR’s Batu branch vice-chief Rozan Azen Mat Rasip today lodged a police report against a cop who allegedly used excessive force when detaining him during a political activity in Batu last Friday.

According to Rozan (above), who spoke to the media after lodging the report (Facebook link) at Dang Wangi district police headquarters, the police personnel had caused multiple injuries by pushing him to the ground and handcuffing him from the back.

"The police personnel's action had caused injuries to both my hands due to them being cuffed tightly for almost four hours. I also suffered injuries on several other body parts, including my face, neck, eyes, tongue and knees.

"I believe these were caused by the cop's action, where he had tackled me to the ground before handcuffing me from the back," Rozan said.

He claimed that there was no reason for the policeman to use such force as he was being cooperative with the authority, and he wants the police to investigate the personnel involved.

The incident occurred about 6pm last Friday, on the roadside near Taman Koperasi Polis 2 in Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur. Rozan said he was then checking the polling areas due to alleged cases of residents in the Batu constituency having their voting areas shifted.

He told reporters that he had gone to a private clinic for treatment, but was advised to go to a government facility to get checked and have a full medical report issued, as the court and authorities would only accept documents from government hospitals.

Police order for medical check-up required

However, when he went to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital's Emergency Department, Rozan said, he was told that only the police could issue the order for such a medical check-up.

"Thus, by lodging my police report today, I hope that the police force would issue the order for a medical check-up so that the hospital can prepare a report that can be used as evidence," he said.

Rozan also denied the statement of the Sentul district police chief, Beh Eng Lai, that claimed he (Rozan) was obstructing police duties and was being uncooperative.

Asked if he was also considering initiating civil legal action, Rozan said he would give the police some time to respond and hoped that they would take his report seriously before he decides on any further action.  - Mkini
