PETALING JAYA: The government has declassified and published the findings of a special investigation into the memoir of former attorney-general Tommy Thomas.
Publication of the report, by a special task force, comes a week after caretaker Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had said it would be made public.
The report is available at the website of the legal affairs division of the Prime Minister’s Department.
Questions had been asked about the status of the declassified report, after checks by FMT failed to find the document online.
On Oct 13, Ismail said the report would be made public. Last Tuesday, the Umno vice-president reportedly urged Barisan Nasional’s election machinery to capitalise on the declassified report.
Thomas’s book “My Story: Justice in the Wilderness” was published in January last year.
In September, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) revealed that Ismail had asked for Thomas to be investigated for sedition and various other offences as recommended in the report by the special task force.
According to the PMO, those include potential breaches of the Official Secrets Act, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act and sections of the Penal Code, which relate to the dissemination of false reports and wrongful disclosure of information.
A document said to be a copy of the classified report was leaked online on Oct 6. Bukit Aman is investigating the leak. - FMT
