Singapore recalls eggs from Malaysia after detecting salmonella

PETALING JAYA: The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has ordered the recall of eggs imported from Malaysia following the detection of the bacteria, Salmonella Enteritidis (SE).

It said that the recall is ongoing and that it only involves eggs from one supplier, Teo Seng Layer Farm 1, which has now been suspended from exporting its eggs to Singapore.

“As SE may cause foodborne illness if food is consumed raw or undercooked, SFA has directed all six importers to withhold or recall the affected eggs.

“In particular, BH Fresh Food Pte Ltd has been directed to recall the affected eggs that had been distributed to retail outlets for sale as a precautionary measure,” it said in a statement yesterday.

The agency also said the other five importers have been told to withhold the affected eggs from distribution.

The affected eggs can be identified by the stamp “CEJ027” on the eggs.

“SFA will lift the farm’s suspension only when it has rectified the SE contamination issue,” the agency said.

Last week, the SFA extended the recall of two additional Mie Sedaap products from Indonesia due to the presence of ethylene oxide.

The agency said it has directed Arklife Distributors Pte Ltd to recall Mie Sedaap Soto and Curry flavour instant noodles.

Previously, the agency directed Sheng Sheng F&B Industries Pte Ltd to recall Mie Sedaap Korean Spicy Soup instant noodles and Korean Spicy Chicken instant noodles due to the presence of the substance.

Malaysia’s health authorities said the batches of noodles sold in Singapore had not been brought into Malaysia. The batches sold in Malaysia were different from those in Singapore, a health ministry official said. - FMT
