PETALING JAYA: Anwar Ibrahim has denied a report claiming that Pakatan Harapan (PH) has rejected Muda’s application to join the coalition ahead of the 15th general election (GE15).
“That’s not true,” said the PH chairman.
“We are still negotiating and there has been progress,” he added after attending PKR’s central leadership council meeting at the party’s headquarters here last night.
He was commenting on a media report quoting sources in PKR who claimed that the PH presidential council had rejected Muda’s application to join the coalition at a meeting last week.
Meanwhile, PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil said the presidential council could decide on Muda’s application “as early as Wednesday”.
Muda officially began talks with PH to join the coalition last month, and their inclusion, if accepted, would make them the coalition’s fifth component party.
In a recent interview with FMT, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the party’s inclusion in PH could trigger “positive competition” among coalition partners to field more young and talented candidates.
He also dismissed claims that Muda was out to snatch seats belonging to DAP, PKR and Amanah.
Muda faces fierce opposition from PKR over its application, with some leaders challenging the new party to prove its worth by contesting in difficult seats such as those in the east coast. - FMT
