United against BN: Muda leader welcomes electoral pact

A Muda senior leader has welcomed Pakatan Harapan's decision to form an electoral pact with the new party, stressing it is crucial for opposition parties to unite against BN.

Muda central executive committee member Lim Wei Jiet (above) said the opposition must form a united front because voters want a solution to their problems, and they need a coalition in which they are confident.

"I welcome the decision for Harapan to form an electoral pact with Muda for the 15th general election.

"It is vital for opposition parties who champion a progressive multiracial Malaysia to unite and avoid multi-cornered fights which would only benefit Umno-BN," he said in a text message to Malaysiakini.

Malaysiakini contacted Lim for his comments on Harapan presidential council's decision last night, where the top leadership finally gave its nod to make Muda an ally in going into GE15.

Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim

Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim told the media yesterday that they would be discussing details of their cooperation, such as seat allocations and logo.

Muda has yet to come up with an official statement on the decision.

‘Real foe’

The party, which was set up in 2020, had been in discussions with Harapan leadership, hoping to join the opposition coalition as a component party.

Muda's application, however, had been met with setbacks as certain sections in Harapan heavily objected to the idea due to their differences in the past, including Muda's decision to contest against PKR during the Johor state election in March.

Lim told Malaysiakini that he is confident that Muda and Harapan can work together to fight against their "real foe" - Umno and BN - despite all that had happened between the parties in the past.

"I also look forward to working together on any common policies we agree with as electoral partners.

"Voters want solutions to their problems and confidence that a Harapan+ government will benefit them - we cannot win by merely attacking Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Umno-BN." - Mkini
