Ex-construction project manager charged with CBT involving TH-owned project

PETALING JAYA:

A former construction project manager pleaded not guilty in the Kota Bharu sessions court today to criminal breach of trust involving RM14,000 in penalties collected from a contractor for a Tabung Haji-owned commercial building project.

Bernama reported that Hashim Mukhatap, 53, a former construction manager for THP Timur Sdn Bhd, was charged with misappropriating RM14,000 in penalties collected from contractor Kelpile Sdn Bhd by depositing the money into his personal bank account.

The case involves a proposed 22-storey commercial building comprising 244 serviced apartment units, four penthouse units, public amenities, commercial space, parking facilities, a sub-basement level and related facilities at Lot 273, Section 12, Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Hashim allegedly committed the offence at Sofea Residensi, Lot 10015, Section 12, Kota Bharu, between Nov 15, 2017 and Aug 8, 2018.

The charge, framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment, whipping and a fine.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Mariah Omar proposed bail of RM15,000 while defence counsel Fahmi Abd Moin requested RM5,000.

Judge Dazuki Ali granted bail of RM8,000 with one surety and ordered Hashim to surrender his passport, refrain from interfering with witnesses, and report monthly to the Shah Alam MACC office.

The court fixed Oct 19 for mention. - NST
