Sweet treats, sour debate; vigilantes confront migrant ice cream seller in the neighbourhood

IS IT a crime to put a smile on the faces of the children? Apparently it is if you happen to be in Malaysia and not holding a legitimate license to sell ice cream.

The law can be harsh and this is exactly what a migrant is experiencing when he was stopped by several vigilantes for selling ice cream in a neighbourhood.

In the video, they could be seen demanding the ice cream seller to show valid identifications while looking tough like a gangster. Knowing that these migrants are already poor as they are, is it wrong for people to obstruct them from making some money?

Apparently it is, and quite a number of netizens supported the action of those vigilantes too. The video can also be found at: https://x.com/dahfollowbelum/status/2011065995734171748?s=20

According to @Qiyut99 in the comment section, his grandmother once saw these ice cream seller gangs urinating at the side of the road.

“Not even sure if they wash after this. From that day onwards, I don’t buy these motorcycle ice creams like this,” he said.

The video also prompted @UdaShafiq to state that a number of Pakistanis also sold ice cream on motorbikes in the Gombak area. He wasn’t sure if these people have licenses or if their products are clean.

Another netizen said the water used to make the ice cream might have been taken from the toilet too.

The more sarcastic comment award, perhaps, goes to @xanDer9ne:

Away from the comments, foreigners can do business in Malaysia.  “The most straightforward business entity, a sole proprietorship, is exclusively available to foreigners with permanent residency in Malaysia,” said the website Incorp Malaysia.

Subsequently, foreigners can only start a sole proprietorship in Malaysia if they gain permanent residency. Now what are the odds that the foreigner in this video has the necessary prerequisites to peddle an ice pong in our neighbourhood? —  Focus Malaysia
