The former chairperson of a regional Muslim NGO, Hakim Nor, was once again charged, this time at the Sessions Court in Ipoh today, with 10 counts of misappropriation of the organisation's funds.
Hakim, 39, was charged with misappropriating aid donations for humanitarian missions collected by the organisation in collaboration with NGOs in Myanmar, Yemen, Syria and Palestine, totalling RM631,373.13.
The accused pleaded not guilty after all the charges were read out before judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi.
According to the charges, Hakim, as chairperson of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Serantau Muslim, is alleged to have dishonestly misused the organisation's funds in several banks around Ipoh, Batu Gajah and Bandar Seri Iskandar between January 2018 and December 2021.
He is accused of committing all the offences under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which provides for a minimum prison sentence of six months and not more than five years, whipping and a fine.
MACC deputy public prosecutors Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin and Asmaa' Zamri applied for the case to be transferred to the Malacca Sessions Court 1 to be tried together with the accused's earlier cases in the state.
Hakim’s lawyer, Azizzul Shariman Mat Yusoff, did not object to the application.
The judge then ordered the case to be transferred, and the bail in that case was applied to today's case.
Yesterday, Hakim was charged at the Malacca Sessions Court on six counts of misappropriating the organisation's funds involving donations for humanitarian missions totalling RM576,995.40 between June 2019 and May 2021.
Last Monday, Hakim was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on charges of misappropriating aid donations for humanitarian missions totalling RM207,000, seven years ago.
