Teresa Kok to engage in civil suit battle with rightist Akmal; best way to muzzle a rabid racist?

LET the fireworks begin.

Buoyed by Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh’s recent court room victory against ex-IGP (Inspector General of Police) Tan Sri Musa Hassan, DAP supporters must be licking their lips in anticipation of the impending showdown between Seputeh MP Teresa Kok and UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.

“I was in Melaka this morning (Jan 12) to attend court-ordered mediation at the Melaka High Court Mediation Centre concerning the defamation suit I filed in 2024 against Akmal over the halal certification issue,” the former DAP vice-chairman penned on her Facebook page.

“As both parties failed to reach an agreement, the matter will now be heard on Feb 12 & 13 at the Melaka High Court.”

Perhaps even looking forward to an early angpow (Chinese New Year falls on Feb 17), the DAP lawmaker even took her lawyer Datuk Sankara Nair and driver “to a pork-free restaurant for Melaka famous Hainanese chicken rice ball lunch. 😃”.

Earlier, the mediation session which lasted nearly an hour was attended by Sankara, Kok, Akmal and his counsel Syahrul Sazwan Salehin.

In what is likely to be maiden legal suit between two Madani government partners, Kok who was disrespectfully labelled as an “Old Nyonya” by the staunch defender of race and religion had in her letter of demand stated a price tag of RM25 mil.

This news of impending courtroom fireworks was widely shared on social media with many DAP loyalists welcoming the move.

On the 61-year-old six-term Seputeh MP’s own FB page, many party supporters opined that it was time someone stood up to Akmal and his bullying tactics. A civil suit would be a great deterrent.

It was also surmised that the former plantation industries and commodities minister can expect an early angpow in the form of damages awarded.

Elsewhere, entrepreneur and mindset coach Mencius Koay took to FB to highlight what the futility of the mediation process means to the Malaysian socio-political landscape.

“Well, well, well. Looks like Teresa Kok and Akmal Saleh couldn’t kiss and make up.

“The mediation session in Melaka? Total flop. According to Kok’s lawyer SN Nair, both sides basically looked at each other across the table and went ‘nope, not happening’. No compromise, no handshake, no nothing.”

The Penangite also provided a bit more detail:

For those playing catch-up: DAP’s Teresa Kok is suing Akmal over a video he posted last year. And boy, did he go off. He called her an “old nyonya lady”, accused her of meddling in Islamic affairs, labelled her an “embarrassment to the country” and basically, told her to zip it when it comes to anything Islam-related.

The trigger? Kok had made some comments about halal certification in the F&B (food & beverage) industry. Pretty standard stuff, really – discussing processes, procedures, that sort of thing.

“But Akmal took those comments, cranked up the outrage machine to eleven and turned them into something they weren’t. According to Kok’s lawsuit, his video made her look racist, insensitive to Islam and disloyal to Malaysia. Not exactly light accusations.

Many commenters were also of the view that litigation was the best way to bring a halt to this loose cannon whose sole modus operandi appears to be sh*t-stirring.

One even thought it was prudent to throw in insults in response to Akmal’s “old Nyonya lady” jibe with recommendation for the Merlimau Assemblyman to consider plastic surgery for the “Nyonya Lady look better than the Big Fat Ugly Swi*e”.

There were, of course, commenters who sided with the good doctor but it would appear that many citizens are fed up with his constant harping of 3R (race, royalty and religion) issues.

The public awaits with bated breath of the outcome of the court hearings that will kick off on Feb 12. Stay tuned! – Focus Malaysia
