A Bersatu MP summoned to face the party’s disciplinary board hearing today has questioned a postponement of the proceedings to an undetermined date, citing alleged “weaknesses” in the process led by its chairperson Radzi Manan.
Gerik MP Fathul Huzir Ayob told Malaysiakini he, along with more than 10 others, was initially summoned to be present at Bersatu’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya for the hearing at 3pm today.
“This postponement clearly shows that the decision of the previous Bersatu supreme council’s meeting has not only failed to be implemented, but has in fact been betrayed.
“Throughout this entire process, I stress that the management of the board has displayed serious weaknesses, whether in terms of procedure or the merits of the case,” said Fathul (above).
According to Fathul, the most recent Bersatu supreme council meeting chaired by party president Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday had decided that all ongoing disciplinary hearings should be discontinued.
“That may have been the cause of today’s postponement of the proceedings,” he added.

Malaysiakini sighted a Jan 9 disciplinary board notice signed by Radzi and issued to Fathul, which stated that a complainant had reported him based on a press conference which he held in Ipoh on Dec 10 last year, along with other Bersatu members.
According to the notice, an unnamed complainant had reported Fathul and those in attendance, who claimed that 14 out of 24 divisions in Perak had urged Muhyiddin to step down.
“The complainant alleged that the statement made at the press conference was a lie and had tarnished the image of the party,” the notice stated.
Reconciliation proposed
Fathul also revealed that the Bersatu supreme council had, in two separate meetings in November and December last year, proposed reconciliation efforts as well as improvements to the board.
“However, dismissal actions continued to be pursued even though these proposals had been put forward,” he said.
Among others, the disciplinary board had, during a Jan 5 meeting, ruled to sack Indera Mahkota MP Saifuddin Abdullah, but its letter issued the next day did not mention the former Bersatu supreme council member’s specific offence.

Citing the two previous supreme council proposals and the latest decision, Fathul said, “Based on these developments, I affirm that the actions of the board are selective in nature, not grounded in the party’s interests, and clearly unjust.
“If there is true sincerity in resolving internal party conflict, then all actions taken by the board must be fully revoked,” he stressed.
“The membership of individuals who have been dismissed or suspended should be restored, as they have never betrayed the party.
“Supporting leadership figures other than the president does not contravene the party constitution or regulations,” he said.
The first Bersatu supreme council meeting this year was called amid rumours of an alleged move to sack Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin, who, despite having pledged loyalty to Muhyiddin, continues to be dogged by allegations of attempts to support a change in the party’s leadership.
In a statement issued after midnight, following the conclusion of the four-hour meeting, Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali revealed that Muhyiddin had advised all party members to uphold internal discipline and resolve any differences behind closed doors.
