Wow! Teresa Kok gets full CSI service but no cop reprimand for leaving RM2k in car while going jogging

GLOVES out, fine dusters and various other detective devices abound with the only item seemingly missing was an old fashioned magnifying glass.

This was apparently the scenario at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) police station when Seputeh MP Teresa Kok lodged a report over a break-in into her car.

Kok explained she had gone for a jog at 6.15pm on Feb 22 after a heavy downpour and returned to her car at 7pm to find the front passenger-side window smashed.

Her handbag which she had placed on the floor of the passenger seat was stolen. She lost approximately RM2,000 in cash and angpow money along with her identity card, credit cards and other important documents.

“As car break-ins and theft of valuables frequently occur in the area, I sincerely hope that DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) will install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the parking area of Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara to facilitate police investigations into crimes committed there,” urged the former DAP vice-chairman.

The 61-year-old Public Accounts Committee deputy chairman further thanked the police for their professionalism in conducting an investigation into the theft.

Kok’s Facebook post has generated 6.3K Likes, 2.4K comments and 337 shares at the time of writing with some commenters amazed that such a case merited the attention of the forensic unit!

More than a few noted the difference in level of attention and service when an MP is involved as opposed to ordinary citizens.

Editor’s Note: Some commenters were under the impression that the forensics team was sent out to the park to retrieve the prints. It is unclear from the post if the forensics examination was done at the police station or at the scene of the crime.

A number of safety-conscious observers wondered what possessed the DAP lawmaker to carry so much cash when she had planned to go for a run in a public park.

What was even more perplexing was that she left her bag with cash and other valuables in plain view of the passenger foot well.

The news of Kok’s unfortunate incident was also shared on the Malay Mail’s FB page which had some commenters ridiculing her safety protocols.

One insinuated it was “sheer stupidity” to leave such amount of cash in the car unattended for the “sake of fun run”.

Some expressed zero sympathy for what they perceived to be an act of wanton carelessness.

More than a few also pointed out that the KL-born politician should know better having been raised in the Klang Valley and that this was an open invitation to thieves.

Public service announcements aside, it does appear that this little episode does paint a picture of a person who is careless, irresponsible and somewhat casual with valuables. Wonder if she is the same with government official secrets?
