ANYONE who surfs the social media lately will find out about the viral news where a vendor could be seen selling curry puffs for an exorbitant price. The RM10 for four curry puffs or RM2.50 per curry puff not only sparked condemnation from netizens.
Someone even made a report to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living so that the vendor could be investigated. Perhaps there are some premium ingredients used in the curry puffs to justify such a price? Food stuff sure is making a hole in our fellow Malaysians’ pockets.
Fortunately, netizen @kujie pointed out in another post on X that all is not doom and gloom. According to him, there is this stall at Tanjung Malim, Perak which sells four curry puffs at RM3.00 only.
“For your knowledge, this sister not only sells during Ramadhan, but the whole year,” he said, adding that her curry puffs are very popular among the UPSI students.
“This is too cheap,” said @mfidris38 while netizen @MAbdullah46917 pointed out that the average meal in Perak is usually cheap.
And here comes the storm of comparison. @Ispitzionist said that in Sarawak, people were selling at RM2 for five pieces. Apparently these came with prawns and meat too.

Another netizen added that in Setia Indah, Johor Bahru, it is only RM2 for five curry puffs. “Still expensive. At Shah Alam, it is three pieces for RM1.30. Sardine fillings,” said @Baem_Fuad.

Then there was Tangkak, at RM2 for five pieces, said @itsapitkiri. But netizen @hppydprss just had rain on the parade with his comment, “A long time ago, curry puffs were only 20 cents.”

@IzzyWafi added that the netizens should support the people who sell at such prices. Returning to the initial curry puff seller, people can locate the stall beside MyKeria, Tanjung Malim, fronting the 99 Speedmart at Taman Intan Setia.
And for those living in Kuala Lumpur, perhaps it is time for us to brush up our skills in the lost art of home cooking. Tough times call for tough actions.—Focus Malaysia
