FORMER Deputy President of PKR, Rafizi Ramli, said he will announce his political direction this June.
Rafizi said he chose June for the announcement as it marks a year since he resigned from the cabinet of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
In an interview with Sin Chew Daily, Rafizi, who is also a former Economy Minister, said he would not join a “third force.”
Also, he is not looking to form a new party, and would not work with former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Despite this stance, Rafizi said he intends to defend his Pandan parliamentary seat in the GE16. However, he declined to confirm whether he would contest as an independent candidate.
“The general election is not far off. It may be held within a year or even earlier. I have a responsibility to the voters of Pandan and supporters nationwide. They want to know whether I will contest in the next election and under which banner,” he said.
Rafizi added that he is prepared to face party disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion, following his open statements.
On a separate note, PAS expressed appreciation to Rafizi for clearing PN of allegations that it had received funds from gambling activities.
This followed Rafizi’s latest podcast recording last Friday, in which he said Prime Minister Anwar had embarrassed PH by making allegations without evidence.
PAS Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the admission from Anwar’s former close ally had ultimately placed PN and its component parties on the right side of the issue. —Feb 23, 2025
