KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has launched an investigation after a viral video showed an express bus driver allegedly driving with a woman seated on his lap.
In the clip, believed to have been recorded by a passenger on board, the woman is seen handling the steering wheel while sitting on the driver's lap as the bus was in motion.
A separate video, purportedly captured via dashcam from a trailing vehicle, also surfaced online showing what is believed to be the same bus swerving through traffic.
Based on social media posts, the express bus was believed to have been travelling from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) to Kulai when the incident occurred.
RTD senior enforcement director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said immediate action was taken after the videos went viral.
"An investigation was immediately initiated following the circulation of the video. The driver and the bus company involved have been identified.
"The driver has been called in to have his statement recorded this morning," he said.
He added that once investigations were completed, the case would be referred to the department's director-general for further action.
Kifli urged members of the public with information on the incident to contact the nearest RTD office.
He also reminded all motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to comply with traffic laws at all times.
"This is important to ensure the safety of all road users and to prevent incidents that could endanger lives," he said.
