WHEN THE going gets tough, the tough gets going. But that doesn’t mean life has to be harsh, because kindness remains a universal human value.
A heartwarming moment recently captured on video reminded many Malaysians of this simple truth. In the clip, an elderly Malay woman was seen struggling as she pushed her motorcycle along a busy road.
Before long, two young Chinese men stepped in without hesitation, offering to help her. It was a small gesture, but one powerful enough to cut through the endless racial rhetoric that often dominates headlines and political discourse.
Moments like these serve as quiet but meaningful reminders that ordinary people are often far kinder than the narratives pushed by those who profit from division.
While politicians may continue to weaponise race and religion to secure votes, everyday Malaysians are still capable of compassion that transcends such boundaries.
Unsurprisingly, the video drew an outpouring of praise online. Many netizens applauded the young men for their thoughtfulness, describing the act as a reflection of the true Malaysian spirit.

Not everyone was impressed with the cameraman, however. Netizen @Aksarasa835890 criticised the person recording, arguing that helping should come before filming.

Meanwhile, @SHLee76129543 noted that Malaysians have always been willing to help one another, but irresponsible politicians are the ones sowing discord.

“Let all the politicians see this. We are harmonious,” wrote @azman967.
Another user, @EqbalKamal1, jokingly remarked, “Don’t show this to PAS, or later they will say the Chinese want to take the auntie’s motorcycle.”
As @hazxman pointed out, genuinely racist individuals may be few, but their voices are often amplified online.

Fortunately, videos like this offer a timely reminder that kindness still speaks louder than hate — and perhaps that is the Malaysia worth fighting for. — Focus Malaysia
