KUALA LUMPUR: Pandan member of parliament Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli is expected to resume having his statement recorded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for a fourth day tomorrow morning.
This comes after the commission questioned him for a third day today to facilitate investigations into alleged abuse of power and misappropriation of funds.
The probe revolves around a RM1.1 billion investment and strategic partnership agreement in the semiconductor industry between the Economy Ministry and UK-based company, Arm Limited.
MACC investigation division senior director Datuk Mohd Hafaz Nazar said Rafizi, a former economy minister, had his statement recorded for five hours today at the commission's headquarters in Putrajaya.
He said Rafizi arrived at the MACC headquarters about 2pm.
"The recording of his statement for the third day was completed about 7pm.
"The statement recording process will resume for a fourth day tomorrow, which is expected to take place in the morning," he said in a statement.
Earlier today, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki proposed charging two persons over the RM1.1 billion investment deal involving the Economy Ministry and UK-based firm Arm Limited.
He said the investigation papers were nearing completion and are expected to be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor soon.
Investigators had recorded statements from 22 witnesses, including political analyst James Chai.
The probe is being conducted under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 for abuse of power, Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, and Section 409 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust. - NST
