Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in his National Day address today, announced several goodies in the lead-up to the tabling of Budget 2027.
The biggest announcement is that Budi95 quotas would be reverted to 300 litres a month. Meanwhile, BudiDiesel quota will be set at 400 litres a month.
This will be effective Sept 1.
“Budget 2027 will be tabled soon. Usually, I would say, wait for the budget. But it seems some people don’t want to be patient and don’t want to wait.
“The ministers also said that the pressure from the cost of living cannot wait until October.
“So I had to find a way to announce something that could provide some temporary relief for the people, including schoolchildren, housewives and mothers, through the following measures,” he said to thousands gathered at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
In his speech, Anwar also assured the M40 income group that while it may seem that most government goodies go to the B40, they are not neglected and benefit from lower income tax, early schooling aid, as well as electricity subsidies.
More funds for schools
He further announced a 50 percent increase in the allocation for school maintenance next year, from RM1 billion to RM1.5 billion.
The funds will cover national schools, Chinese and Tamil national-type schools, religious schools, tahfiz and pondok institutions, and special education facilities.
“I have also instructed the Education Ministry to mobilise teams to every district and review all applications from schools for infrastructure repairs.
“This is to ensure maintenance work can begin as early as January 2027,” he said.
Anwar said the AI for the People programme would also be opened to Malaysians aged between 18 and 30.
A total of 100,000 youths who complete the required modules will receive free three-month subscriptions to AI applications including Malaysia’s IlmuChat, US-based Gemini Enterprise, and China’s Wonderclip and MuleRun.
Meanwhile, the MCMC will provide RM1 billion to improve digital capabilities in the public healthcare sector.
This will include implementing electronic medical record systems and internet connectivity at 150 hospitals and more than 2,000 public health clinics.
Higher e-Invoicing threshold
Anwar also announced that the annual sales threshold for exemption from mandatory e-Invoicing would be raised from RM1 million to RM3 million.
“With this, businesses recording annual sales of no more than RM3 million will not be required to implement e-Invoicing,” he said.
The government has progressively relaxed e-Invoicing requirements for smaller businesses since introducing the system in August 2024.
The exemption threshold, initially set below RM150,000 in annual sales, was raised to RM500,000 in 2025 and again to RM1 million in December last year. The latest move raises it to RM3 million.
The government will also add RM1 billion to its microfinancing facilities, bringing the total allocation for 2026 from RM5 billion to RM6 billion.
A further RM200 million will be allocated for the Geran Sejahtera Madani to assist hawkers, small traders, night-market traders, and mothers running businesses from home. - Mkini
