Firas Shabuddin, 24, an engineer said it was difficult to wait for news about his father, Shabuddin Mun, who was on a trekking expedition in a four-heel-drive vehicle with the Team Loe group.
Although there was sadness and tension among families of the victims, he chose to remain calm and leave the rescue efforts to the authorities.
“We have to remain rational, if we allow our emotions to get the better of us, nothing will be resolved. Let the ministries do their jobs,” he said.
Commenting on today’s briefing for families of missing Malaysians, Firas said it served as a good platform for coordinating information to ensure all family members received accurate facts.
He said the foreign ministry had advised family members against travelling to Nepal for the time being due to the lack of access to the incident site.
Another son awaiting news of his father is 33-year-old Ashraf Padzil, whose father Padzil Darus, aged 63, was also part of the Team Loe trekking expedition, which comprised nine Malaysians and one Nepali.
Ashraf said he last heard from his father about an hour before the tragedy occurred, when his father sent a photograph showing the conditions and scenery at the expedition site.
The families and friends of three Malaysian climbers reported missing said they remain hopeful.
The three climbers are Muhaimin Azhad Noor Hadi, 27, Adib Haikal Awang Mansor, 27, and Zaki Othman, 29, who have been out of contact while undertaking a climb in the Langtang Valley.
In a post on the Threads, user emyliatahar, a friend of the three climbers, said the last message from the group was received at 10.42am (Malaysia time) on Aug 26, with their last location detected around the Bhote Koshi area.
Muhaimin is from Gelugor, Penang, Zaki from Kubang Semang, Bukit Mertajam, and Adib Haikal from Kulim, Kedah. - FMT
