NAJIB REGIME IN GLOBAL DOGHOUSE AGAIN AFTER ‘STEALTHY ABDUCTION’ OF TURKISH DUO: YOU CANNOT SIMPLY DETAIN & DEPORT PEOPLE TO CURRY POLITICAL FAVOR – HRW

The blatant abduction of Turkish national Turgay Karaman from the parking lot of his lawyer’s office seen in extensive detail on CCTV, and disappearance of businessman Ihsan Aslan, should be setting off alarm bells in Putrajaya.

These disappearances demand urgent investigation, with a priority placed on making sure that these two men are found and under no circumstances forcibly removed from Malaysia and sent to Turkey.

There is little doubt that if they are returned to Turkey, they will face torture in detention, and if charged with crimes there, be subjected to a trial that will fall far short of fair trial standards.

If it is learned that these two men are being held by any branch of the Malaysian government, the relevant agencies must immediately announce where the men are being held and the legal grounds for their detention, and for a start, provide immediate, unfettered access to both their family members and their lawyers.”
