Sabahan Rayzam Shah clocks 13.67 seconds to erase record held by Nur Herman at 1994 Hiroshima Asian Games in Japan.
KUALA LUMPUR: Najib Razak has congratulated Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian for shattering the 23-year-old 110-metres hurdles national record at the Kurpfalz Gala Athletics Championships in Germany yesterday.
“It’s been 23 years since the 110m hurdles record held by Nur Herman Majid. Now it is held by Sabah champion Rayzam Shah. Tahniah! #kebanggaanku #Negaraku,” said the prime minister via his Twitter account today.
Rayzam Shah, 29, from Sabah cloaked 13.67 seconds with the help of a wind speed of 1.7 metres per second, which is still below the two metres per second permitted in the finals of the 110m hurdles.
He erased the record held by Nur Herman at the 1994 Hiroshima Asian Games in Japan.
Rayzam Shah’s achievement is the best shot for the national athletics squad ahead of the SEA Games in August. -FMT
