Report says he appears to have gone missing after being released by police, and that a man was found hanged in Taiping with JJPTR newspaper clippings on him.
GEORGE TOWN: Has JJPTR money game founder Johnson Lee gone into hiding?
A report in The Star said he seemed to have gone missing a day after his release from police custody on Tuesday.
The report said a check at two houses in Bayan Baru and Jelutong found that he had not been staying there for years.
One of his former Bayan Baru neighbours told The Star that Lee used to live there with his parents and sister but that they had moved out four years ago after selling the house.
A former neighbour in Jelutong said Lee and his father had moved out two years ago and that the house was now occupied by several foreign workers.
The Star quoted Penang police chief commissioner Chuah Ghee Lye as saying that investigations were going on despite the release of Lee and his two aides on police bail.
Meanwhile, a Chinese daily reported that a 54-year-old man had hanged himself from a tree in Taiping, Perak, yesterday. Police, who found newspaper clippings about JJPTR on him, have ruled out foul play.
The Star, quoting from the Chinese daily, reported the victim’s elder brother, identified only as Yeoh, as saying his brother had been reserved for several days before his death.
“I found out he had been keeping newspaper reports of JJPTR. I asked if he had invested in it but he denied doing so,” he was quoted as saying. FMT
