KUALA LUMPUR: The wives of the two Turkish citizens who were initially thought to have been abducted had no knowledge that the duo were taken by the police, until they saw Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar’s tweet this afternoon.
Turgay Karaman’s wife, Ayse Gul Karaman, said the police never informed her of the arrest, even after her husband’s friend lodged a report thinking that Turgay was abducted.
“The whole time we thought he was abducted, until we were shown the tweet,” she told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, here today.
“We don’t even know why they were arrested, no one from the police (force) contacted us.”
Ainnurul Aisyah Yunos Ali Maricar, the wife of the other Turkish man arrested – Ihsan Aslan – said the same. She told reporters that she had lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police station last night, to report her husband’s disappearance.
“They said they would call if they have any information. But we didn’t receive any call from the police.”
Khalid in the tweet, confirmed that Turgay and Ihsan were arrested yesterday in connection with “activities that threatened national security”, adding they were arrested under Section 130 of the Penal Code.
When asked about this, both Ayse and Ainnurul broke down in tears, questioning the need to arrest their husbands, who “have done nothing wrong”.
“My husband is a nice man, he never even hurt any insect. So how can he hurt anyone?” said Ayse.
“They work here legally, they have permits, they have visas, passport. I don’t know what is happening.
“We have been here for more than 13 years, we love Malaysians. They have been like brothers and sisters to us. Malaysia is our first home and my husband’s only purpose is to educate the children here.”
As for Ihsan, his Malaysian wife Ainnurul said he has been living in Malaysia for 15 years, and runs a business selling scarves wholesale. They have three children aged between two and 10.
“We have one special son, he’s disabled,” she said tearfully. “My children have no clue what has happened to their father.
“I just told them he is away.”
In a police report sighted by FMT, Turgay, who is a principal with TIME International School in Ipoh, was said to have been abducted in the car park of Wisma E&C in Damansara Heights yesterday afternoon.
His wife, Ayse, claimed five Malaysian men had abducted her husband, based on CCTV footage at the car park. His car was also left behind there.
Ihsan on the other hand, was reported missing by his wife after he didn’t come home from work last night. -FMT
