You'd feel slighted if you're fat, says Dr M on 'fat shaming' video

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad does not believe that he has been guilty of 'fat shaming' anyone.
"If he or she is 'gemuk' (fat), then he or she would 'terasa' (feel slighted). That's not my problem," said Mahathir simply.
He was responding to Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who criticised him for fat shaming a woman during a recent speech the former prime minister made in Kedah.
However, Mahathir said he was merely responding to a question on how he takes care of his health.
"I was asked about how I keep my health. I said if you are 'gemuk', you will get problems. Is that wrong?"
Khairy in his tweet yesterday said Mahathir gets a free pass for fat shaming a woman.
His tweet included a link to a video that contained an excerpt of Mahathir's speech in Kubang Pasu on May 16.
In the video, Mahathir, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairperson, said he is slim because he does not 'makan rasuah' (take bribes).
"I do not want to become fat like some people... like someone's wife. When she walks, it's like a gearbox," he said, waving his arms up and down to mimick how the person walked.
More than 500 at Selayang gathering
Though he did not name anybody, many took it to mean that he was referring to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's wife Rosmah Mansor.
Meanwhile, the Pakatan Harapan programme Mahathir and other leaders attended last night saw more than 500 people in attendance at the venue held in Selayang, Selangor.
Noting this, Mahathir said in his speech that this was despite question marks on when the 14th general election would be held.
"However, we gather here today to listen to speeches by politicians because we feel that the country is facing a huge problem," he said.
Apart from Mahathir, among others who gave their speeches at the venue were Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu and DAP lawmaker Tony Pua.

Mohamad in his speech urged for bygones to be bygones when it comes to Mahathir.
"Today we are with Mahathir. We are not here to talk about old stories. If Mahathir were to talk about what Mohamad Sabu said about him, then we will never find solutions.
"We will be fighting, while the people will continue to face corrupt leaders.
This is the reason why Pakatan Harapan is working to find a common stand, Mohamad explained, adding to the audience: "Because we want to build a better Malaysia for the future of everybody."- Mkini
