Zahid: Police conducting major internal reshuffle

The Royal Malaysian Police is conducting a major internal reshuffle but has not announced details to avert public misconception, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the home minister, said he welcomed the steps taken to rectify the enforcement organisation from within.
"We are carrying out an internal reshuffle and it is on a major scale," he said to reporters after attending a luncheon and Zohor prayers at the surau of the Bukit Dugang Orang Asli Settlement here.
On May 15, the Royal Malaysian Police announced it would carry out a major reshuffle in the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman following the arrests of 16 policemen, among them senior officers, from the department on suspicion of protecting drug syndicates.
Ahmad Zahid said he appreciated the monitoring of the Royal Malaysian Police and the Home Ministry by external agencies but added that the excessive publicity would give a negative perception of the enforcement body.
He also expressed the commitment of the ministry and the police to carry out reforms and listen to the pulse and grievances of the people.
"We also follow the comments of netizens on the measures taken by the police.
"Place your trust in me and the police top leadership to do good for the people and country,” he said.

Deputy inspector-general of police Noor Rashid Ibrahim, who was also present at the programme, said the police were considering firm implementation of a three-year transfer policy with regard to sensitive posts.
This was to prevent any police officer or personnel to be deployed in a sensitive post or place for too long, he added.
"We are looking at the internal system on transfers after a certain period. Sometimes, it is not that we do not want to transfer (someone), but we have to look into many factors such as children’s schooling, cost of transfer and so on,” he said.
