DAP's Ngeh elected Perak Speaker, Zambry kicks up fuss over 4th name

IPOH: Perak DAP advisor and Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (pic) was elected as the new Perak State Legislative Assembly Speaker.
Ngeh's nomination was made by Dr Abdul Azizi Bari (DAP-Tebing Tinggi) and seconded by Yahaya Mat Nor (Amanah-Pasir Panjang).
He was sworn in as Speaker in front of Perak state assembly secretary Kamarulariffin Ayub.
Other names had been proposed by the Opposition parties Barisan Nasional and PAS.
Khairul Sharil Mohamed (BN-Bota) had proposed former deputy speaker Datuk Nasarudin Hashim for the post. He was supported by Ahmad Saidi Mohamad Daud (BN- Changkat Jering).
The three PAS assemblymen proposed state PAS deputy commissioner Mohd Misbahul Munir Masduki as their candidate. The name was proposed by Razman Zakaria (PAS- Gunung Semanggol) and supported by Akmal Kamarudin (PAS-Selama).
Ngeh, a lawyer by profession, received 31 votes, Mohd Misbahul three votes, and Nasarudin 25 votes.
Earlier, the Opposition voiced out to the state assembly secretary that initially four names were nominated, two from Pakatan Harapan, one from Barisan and one from PAS.
Kamarulariffin explained that the fourth candidate had pulled out, and therefore it was not necessary to mention that, or the candidate's name.
However, state Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said if with such a simple matter, they (Pakatan Harapan) could not be transparent, what about the bigger issues.
"We are merely asking for the secretary to mention that the candidate has pulled out, and to give the name.
"This shows that within Pakatan, there is no consensus in their candidates for the Speaker post," insinuated Zambry.
The deputy assembly speaker is Aminuddin Zulkipli (Amanah-Behrang). -Star
