Dapsy slams Cabinet exclusions, urges consensus in PH

PETALING JAYA: DAP Youth (Dapsy) has questioned the new Cabinet lineup which features only six ministers from the party.

Dapsy chief Wong Kah Woh said the lineup did not reflect the “people’s aspirations” after DAP had won the second most parliamentary seats in Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the May 9 general election.

Wong said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had failed to respect the proposals submitted by a coalition partner.

“Today, the proposal presented by DAP has been set aside. If the DAP secretary-general’s appointment (as a minister) is also rejected for whatever reason some day, would DAP still be forced to accept such a decision?” Wong said.

“Only by practising decision-making based on consensus would the new Malaysia be built and new political culture be born.”

He said as all four parties in PH had given the prime minister the power to select and appoint ministers, the appointments should have been made from the list of candidates provided by the parties and their choices should have been respected.

He claimed that several candidates proposed by DAP, including its Sarawak chief Chong Chieng Jen, who is Stampin MP, and its Perak chief and Teluk Intan MP Nga Kor Ming, were dropped from the ministers’ list.

DAP only obtained six ministerial posts despite having won 42 seats in the Dewan Rakyat, Wong said in a statement today.

In the election held in May, PH won 113 of the 222 parliamentary seats. Mahathir is chairman of both PH and PPBM.

Wong said the prime minister should listen to the voices and intentions of his fellow colleagues as the new Cabinet was important to determine the future direction of the country.

“Although Pakatan Harapan has given the prime minister the ultimate authority to determine the Cabinet list, he should listen to the voices and views of comrades in these appointments rather than acting otherwise,” he added.

Wong said the youth wing was not questioning the selected ministers’ abilities but the names proposed by the DAP were the best choices in all aspects.

The proposed candidates were also the party’s main national leaders who had contributed greatly to PH’s win in the polls, he added. - FMT
