Jho Low must return to Malaysia, says MACC chief

Penang-born tycoon Jho Low must return to Malaysia to assist the special task force investigating 1MDB, said MACC chief commissioner Mohd Shukri Abdull.
"He's welcome. Come back to Malaysia," said Shukri during a press conference in Petaling Jaya today after the launch of a book authored by Transparency-International Malaysia chief Akbar Satar.
Shukri, who is also a member of the special 1MDB taskforce, denied a purported plan by Malaysian investigators to meet with Low in Dubai.
"He is Malaysian," Shukri said when pressed for comments on the matter.
Online portal The Malaysian Insight last month quoted unnamed government sources as saying that Low's lawyers have initiated discussions with Malaysian authorities investigating the 1MDB scandal.
The report also claimed that Low chose Dubai because he was close to influential stakeholders there.
"Can I ask you reporters to find Jho Low for me? I think it is not only the MACC but enforcement authorities from around the world are looking for Jho Low.
"Maybe if you all have information you all can share it with me," Shukri quipped earlier.
Efforts to find Low, believed to be a key person in the 1MDB affair, have intensified as the probe into 1MDB widened to include various government agencies as well as investigators from various countries, including Singapore, the United States and Switzerland.
Authorities believe he can assist in tracing and recovering assets purchased using 1MDB funds, including expensive jewellery.
MACC has also stated that it is seeking Low to assist in its probe into 1MDB's former subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd.
Low was recently suspected to be seeking refuge in Macau, according to the Malaysian Reserve.
