The three charges against Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim for allegedly making seditious remarks against the Selangor sultan have been dropped.
This comes after Hassan’s counsel sent a representation letter to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) on June 27.
Shah Alam Sessions Court judge Adli Abdul Ghalib also granted Hassan, who is also the Johor PKR chief, a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA).
“The representation letter was accepted and the instruction was to withdraw the charges today,” said deputy public prosecutor Naliatul Husaini Ab Rasip at the Shah Alam Sessions Court today.
Naliatul said the AGC replied to the representation letter on July 24.
Hassan’s lawyer Eric Paulsen then pushed for a discharge amounting to an acquittal (DAA) while Naliatul requested for a DNAA.
A DNAA means that while the charges have been dropped, the prosecution reserves the right to reinstate the charges at a later time.
Hassan was charged in 2014 with three counts of sedition over three separate tweets about the Selangor menteri besar crisis where he allegedly made remarks against the Selangor sultan. -Mkini
